It is a chronicle on what shape the minds of American. I believe ideas are bullet proof and the contemporary US history would be the reflection of what is going on in China, where still flooded with information censoring, human-made disaster, dispute in political philosophies... This books is very good to let you know the experience how intellectuals dissect and provide a logical solution.
Comments:
american intellectuals also make the society "human", rather then logical reasonable solution that computer may provide. they emphasized on individual then public. in this way, people can truly have freedom and free from any control by govt. compare to china, govrt focus on public, and demand individual scarify. is a really quite an opposite approach on governing. from Jefferson down to Obama ( ok, although Obama does not have any deep impact philosophies so far), the US political intellectuals are always focus on building a humanity society. compare to china history, political interllectuals, are all focusing on enriching personal power. anyway,
Hell is real!!!!!

Agree.
China needs frontiers (or radicals) to shape & improve the future and the US history is the perfect example.
The intellectuals mentioned have all ran through censors and threat, you may recall the McCarthyism era in 1960s... The countries needs brave individual to speak the truth...
