An idea a day:
41. Selling cheap RFID-embeded decoration to drivers, at the same time, install detectors at heavy-traffic road, then the concentration at that spot can be found.
This can provide a more fast/ instant/ accurate/ numeric means for drivers/ commuters to take heed, before they go work every morning, apart from seeing this.
Comments:
Yes, many Electronic Tolling Collection systems use RFID to electronically debit the accounts of registered cars without their stopping. This technology has been applied to Korea, Pakistan, India, Malyaysia, Singapore, even Autotoll from HK, do have this facility.
The infra-structure is ready for your idea, but is there a need to have such "accurate" method to gauge the traffic?
Taking tunnel as an example, if we could know the concentration/flow of traffic at all the tunnels, stated at how many cars/minute, then there is some method to calculate the time needed for any car to pass the tunnel, thus, people can compare tunnels heading towards the same destination, for shorter time to go.
From your gov website, there is a camera gauging traffic, is it enough for average person?
If every cars could have GPS navigation system, and all connected to internet, all drivers will know the exact time to travel from any point to others, if the number of detectors and RFID tags reached a critical mass.
Yes, I should say this is really "Far-Ahead", and may be only exist in movies.
If every drivers knows the time for travel, then all commuters can benefit.
Imagine you can access the accurate arrival and departure time of bus or mini-bus, it can shorten the time for people to wait at the station, leaving more time for life!
Commuters will know when the latest he should wake up and travel, but never being late to school or work!
I heard the similar technology in TV. Yes, it is very useful during traffic jams.
But, in some cities, the roads are really crowd. So, those drivers cannot avoid the jams every morning.
The gov. can reduce the quantities of the vehicles. e.g. In Malay, The private car must carry at least 4 passengers in the morning.
