An idea a day:
72. Add further price discrimination for publishers, to combat and make $$ from the 2nd hand market.
For oversea books market, unlike HK, they will have firstly the hardcover, then the mass paperback, the price discrimation between the two would entice further sales and extend sales cycles.
If publishers could have a further low-cost version of books, with standard/shared book size, paper, printing with other books, just like those penguin classics, the books could also exclude any fancy items, like book covers/design, it could save and share books cost, and have a economic of scale to cut down the retail price.
This super-low cost version could launch a year after the hardcover/ paperback, this is the time when the 2nd hand quantity start to boom. With comparable price, costomers would certain opt to buy new one other than the old and used. This could make publishers to make $$ from a market where they aint in.
